It has been a relatively mild December, with almost record-breaking high temperatures for this time of year. The only precipitation we’ve been having is rain. If it were snowing, we could go out and do fun things like this, but on rainy days you want to stay indoors. Cabin fever could set in with back-to-back rainy days. So, the million dollar question is: what to do? Below are suggestions of unique and traditional places to go and things to do for adults, and traditional place and things for teens and kids. Since many of the ideas for adults are more unique, descriptions are added.
ADULTS
- AMC Theaters Market Fair – Buy some snacks and watch one of the latest movies, but don’t recline to avoid falling asleep
- The Apple Store – You could easily spend at least an hour here looking at Macs, portable devices, and accessories
- Best Buy – Test out headphones and Bluetooth speakers, head over to the Apple section, check out the DSLRs and latest DVDs & Blu-Rays, go to Magnolia (home theater showroom) to compare 4K UHD TV, curved screens, and OLED models, and listen to home theater equipment
- Brookstone – Sit in a massage chair, check out all the gadgets
- Car Dealership – Go to one or more and discover the latest car tech
- Cherry Grove Farm – Cheese making classes
- Ethan Allen – This is a live, interactive Pinterest board or collection of Houzz photos, where you can spend time here to get home decorating ideas
- Hamilton Jewelers – Make sure not to drool over the elegant watches, jewelry, and home goods
- Infini-T Café – Relax with a cup of tea and a bite to eat while lounging with a friend
- Mrs G TV & Appliances – Gorgeous working kitchen appliance in vignettes makes this store a live, 3D Pinterest board or collection of Houzz photos
- Party City – Walk through to pick your favorite theme and get ideas for your next party
- Pinot’s Palette – Art lesson in a studio where you get to sip wine while painting, and all the New Jersey studios are BYOB, but Princeton and East Brunswick locations are coming soon, so for now, check out Somerville
- Princeton Art Museum – Meander through at your own pace, examining brush strokes or merely glance in awe
- Princeton Garden Theatre – Watch a classic or art house film, or catch a Saturday matinée
- Princeton Public Library – Read newspapers, magazines, or books in a nook, plus there are various programs and events to from which to learn or be entertained
- Princeton Health and Wellness – Work out, go swimming, or book a massage at their on-site Spa Envy
- Small World Coffee – Drink a cup of coffee, get free wi-fi, and chat with friends
- Spa Afternoon – Get a mani-pedi, massage, facial, or all the above
- Sur le Table or Terra Learning Kitchen (in Princeton) Cooking Classes – Check the forecast and possibly book ahead
- YMCA – Various activities, including swimming
- Yoga – The perfect day to stretch and meditate
