Mancation Ideas

January 20, 2012 By

What’s a mancation? It’s a vacation for the fellas. A male equivalent to a girlfriend getaway. Ladies like to go away to be pampered, but when men want to escape the grind, they tend to plan events around sports, drinking, or gambling, and love to participate in some type of experience. So here are some getaway ideas for a group of guys. Just uphold the bro code. No women allowed.

Budget Ideas

Clipper City Brewing Company – Just a drive down to Baltimore for a brewery tour, and see how they make their Heavy Seas Beer. Arrive 15 minutes prior to the tour for a beer tasting. Tack on an Orioles or a Ravens game if the season is right, and if you’re lucky Baltimore could be playing against your favorite team. This could be a day trip or an overnight getaway.

NYC Overnight – Go to a Knicks game with the guys. Overnight at the Fairfield Inn and Suites Chelsea NYC so after the game you can grab something to eat and knock back some drinks. The hotel offers complimentary breakfast, and they have a fitness center for your use at no extra charge.

Philly Overnight – Catch a 76ers, Phillies, or Eagles game, then overnight at the Hampton Inn Philadelphia Center City, where you’ll get a free hot breakfast.

Paintball – Gather a big group and head to the New Jersey Paintball Club. Split up into two teams, choose a good sniper, set up traps, and take the other team out!

Buds and Suds – Head south to the shore for the Atlantic City Beer and Music Fest taking place March 30-31, 2012. Since you’re there anyway, hit the tables at one of the casinos.

Deep Sea Fishing – Go out on ‘Big Jamaica’ and try to catch a bluefish, or compete for the largest catch.

Stay Local – Go to a Trenton Titans or Trenton Thunder game, have a couple of drinks at the Princeton Sports Bar or Triumph Brewery, and go on a  Ghost Tour with Princeton Tour Company.

Luxury Ideas

Off-Road Adventures – There’s something about men and cars that’s like peanut butter and jelly. They just go together. Badlands Off-Road Adventures will take them off the beaten track.

Nascar Racing – Sticking with driving, Monster Racing on the Dover Speedway will get their hearts pumping. Add the Dover Downs Hotel & Casino for poker and game tables, plus there’s harness racing. This could be a day trip or an overnight escape.

Atlantic City Weekend – Let’s segue from the Dover Downs Casino to Caesars in the center of the boardwalk, which has the best parking garage, and the best casino floor bar – The Toga. After Texas Hold ’em, roulette or craps, check out the nightly entertainment. Another choice is the Borgata, which is the hottest casino in AC. Of course, they have lots of restaurants, bars and shows to keep the guys entertained.

Golf – Kiawah Island Golf Resort is one of the top golf resorts in the country, and a great place for the guys to chill for a weekend.

Spa – Yes, I said SPA! The  Doral Golf Resort & Spa in Miami is the perfect spa for men, offering Men’s Services including executive facials, a sports manicure, and the perfect shave. There are also five golf courses and great golf packages, plus a steakhouse and lounge at the resort. Golf not your thing? They offer tennis as well. If you’d rather watch sports, you can get tickets to a Heat, Marlins or Dolphins game. If you time it right, Miami could be playing against your favorite team.

Baseball Camp – The New York Yankees Fantasy Camp or Phillies Fantasy Camp could be the ultimate Mancation! Guys can suit up and play on opposing teams for some friendly competition.

I love the mancation! (Grunts like Toolman Tim Taylor) I was just discussing taking a road trip with a few of my comrads. You gave me some excellent ideas.

Glad I could be of help. At least you have your creative juices flowing now, so arrange a good mancation! BTW, Princeton has The Triumph Brewing Company for excellent beer, a tour, and tastings if you don’t want to drive down to Baltimore.
