Last Saturday, the 2010-2011 Provision Class of the Junior League of Greater Princeton helped spread awareness about healthy eating and active lifestyles for children in the Princeton community. They organized a family event at the Hinds Plaza and in the Princeton Public Library community room from 11am – 3pm called “Building Healthy Kids”.
In the library there was a hands-on cooking class with Chef Christopher Albrecht of Eno Terra, as well as a healthy eating demo. There was also a 45-minute ‘Yahoo Yogis’ yoga class geared toward 8 – 12 year olds taught by Mecquel of Wild Child Yoga.
Outdoors there was an interactive health and fitness fair atmosphere. Several tables were set up offering a variety of goods and services. The Witherspoon Grill was giving parfait samples to guests, WPST played pop tunes and had a spin & win prize wheel, Parker’s Health & Fitness and Gametime Performance both had an exercise station, Private Picassos was there with a craft table, and there was so much more!
In addition to all of these wonderful activities, demos, and samples, there was a raffle for the adults, and there were red drawstring sports pack swag bags filled a small bag of pretzels, a Spinbrush toothbrush, measuring spoons, sample bags of Craisins, and a healthy snack recipe book for the kids.
Other participating businesses and organizations included the American Boychoir, Princeton Ballet, Princeton YMCA, The Whole Earth Center, Princeton Healthcare System, Best Buy volunteers, lululemon athlectica, and Yoga – Greg & Nichole’s. Thanks to them all for a special day!
There was no need to register, and this was all free to participants. I think the Junior League’s provision class did a fantastic job! I brought my daughter along, and we both gave this event two thumbs up. What an amazing way to kick off a healthier spring for families this year!
